Hypertension Defined

High blood pressure; the elevation of blood pressure above the normal range. High blood pressure is one of the major risk factors of heart disease because the pressure can damage the fragile lining of the blood vessels. A reading of greater than 140/90 mmHg at rest on three or more separate occasions is considered high blood pressure. (Read more)
