An event which occurs when the flow of blood to the brain is blocked. If brain cells don't get a continuous supply of oxygen-rich blood, they die. When a stroke occurs, nerve cells in the damaged area of the brain cannot function either. The effects may be slight or severe, temporary or permanent.
